NFDC SCREENWRITERS' LAB

The NFDC Screenwriters’ Lab is an annual programme that offers screenwriters the opportunity to experiment with and explore their screenplays under the mentorship of acclaimed international script and industry experts. Held in collaboration with Film Bazaar, the lab also introduces participants to global industry norms and practices. Additionally, the lab trains the participants to pitch and present their projects to domestic and international producers and investors. For the 2025 edition, fiction features of any genre are invited to apply to the Lab.

ELIGIBILITY
  • The Screenwriters’ Lab shall accept applications only from either Indian passport holders residing in India or from valid Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders.
  • Open only for feature length fiction films.
  • Applicants must submit a complete screenplay. Incomplete screenplays will not be eligible for consideration.

  • Use this ID to access the online application form.
  • Applications will not be considered complete till the payment has been processed.
  • Email/hardcopy applications will not be accepted.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Before you begin, please make sure you have the following:

Applicants must submit a complete screenplay draft. Incomplete or partial scripts will not be considered.

The following supporting materials are also required:

  • CV
  • Logline
  • Short Synopsis (100 – 150 words)
  • 5 Page Treatment (The treatment may differ from the screenplay and should provide with a clear overview of the project's vision and structure)
  • Link to past work
  • First five pages of the script
  • Writer’s Statement covering about
    - Why they want this story to be told?
    - What they want to get out of the lab?
    - What they hope to get out of Film Bazaar?
    - Who they think the audience is?

Applications that do not include all required materials may not be considered for selection.

DATES FOR THE LAB
  • Session 1 (5 Days) – End of August 2026 (Tentative)
  • Session 2 (Online) – Mid October 2026 (Tentative)
  • Session 3 (5 Days) – November 15-20, 2026 (Tentative)
  • NFDC Film Bazaar - November 20–24, 2026
FEE
  • The Early Bird Deadline for Applications is July 28, 2026 - INR 8,000 (IST 11:59PM) 
  • The Extended Deadline for Applications is August 04, 2026- INR 9000 (IST 11:59PM) 

The application fee is a one-time, non-refundable fee.

BRIEF HISTORY

Since 2007, the Film Bazaar Screenwriters’ Lab has brought out notable projects that have not only gone on to receive exceptional acclaim at prestigious film festivals across the world but have also achieved commercial success in India.
